About MeAs a Licensed Professional Counselor, I provide therapy for clients seeking personal growth and wellness by working through the challenges of life. Through personal connection, experience and insight, I assist clients as they process and cope with their distress.
I have been a counselor for over 37 years, working 26 years as an elementary and middle school counselor in Gwinnett County Public Schools. In 2002, I started Dream Quest EFP & TR, Inc. as a unique experiential approach to counseling in equine-facilitated psychotherapy. In 2014, I opened Thrive Counseling Services to provide traditional therapy in an office setting for current and prospective clients. In May 2019, I retired from Dream Quest but continue to work with clients in the office. I am a member of the National Board for Certified Counselors, and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia. Personally, I have remarried and changed my last name in April 2019. My husband and I share a blended family of two sons and their wives, a daughter, 3 grandchildren and our dog, Marley. I enjoy ministry and worship activities in the church and community, as well as playing pickleball, singing, walking, hiking and traveling. |
Approach to Counseling |
I believe that by personally connecting with the individual and teaching effective coping skills, clients are naturally motivated to make changes to become healthy physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. I utilize a variety of approaches, including Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, based on over 37 years of working with children, adults, and families. For EAP clients, I employ Solution-Focused Brief Counseling Therapy. I am comfortable working with individuals from a wide spectrum of values, ethnicity, culture, and religious beliefs.
Your decision to enter counseling is a voluntary one and you may terminate it at any time. If, in my professional opinion, it is in your best interest to refer you to another therapist or to a medical professional, I will do so because of ethical standards. I strongly believe that change is possible. I see our relationship as one in which you oversee setting your own goals and I am privileged to assist you as you work toward accomplishing those goals. Please note that it is impossible to guarantee any specific results regarding your counseling goals. However, we will work together to achieve the best possible results for you. |
